Sorgsen musik till ett sorgset hjärta
(240) kommentarerMusikforskaren Daniel Levitin, som jag tidigare skrivit om här på bloggen, berättar i sin bok “The World in Six Songs”, att han sitter på en uteservering och äter en bit mat tillsammans med artisten Joni Mitchell. Fram kommer två kvinnor, kring 50, och tackar Joni Mitchell. “Before Prozac there was you!” De menar att 20-årsåldern var en jobbig tid för dem på 70-talet, men Mitchells speciella album Blue fick dem att må mycket bättre.
När vi känner oss nedstämda och sorgsna lyssnar många av oss på sorgsen eller vemodig musik. Vid första tanken kanske det mest logiska vore att istället lyssna på glad musik för att bli upplivad och komma i gladare sinnesstämning?
Men enligt Levitin, känner sig ofta en nedstämd och ledsen person ensam och kanske missförstådd. Glad musik kan då snarare vara irriterande och skapa känslan av att känna sig ännu mer ensam och missförstådd. Att istället lyssna till sorgsen musik, kan ge känslan av att “nu är vi i alla fall två”. Och nu finns det åtminstone någon som förstår mig.
Mer vetenskapligt talar Levitin om ett lugnande hormon, prolaktin, som frigörs när vi är nedstämda. Sorg har ett evolutionärt syfte, att hjälpa oss att spara energi och att nyorientera oss inför framtiden (efter en traumatisk upplevelse).
Det kan vara så att vi genom att lyssna på sorgsen musik, “lurar” hjärnan att frigöra prolaktin som svar på en verklig eller inbillad sorg, driven av musiken, och att prolaktinet sedan vänder sinnesstämningen, menar Levitin.Prolaktin frigörs även efter orgasm, efter födelse och under amning och en kemisk analys av tårar, visar att prolaktinet inte utsöndras i tårar i samband med ögonirritation, eller i tårar som fuktar ögat eller i glädjetårar. Det utsöndras endast i tårar av sorg.
